Great rivers, oceans, rain
In May, we will be launching a series of concerts each of which will paint one of the elements of nature in wonderful, terrifying or exciting scenes. For the first of these concerts, the theme will be water, a matter essential to life itself. It will allow our thoughts to turn towards philosophical reflections about water and its relation to our lives, our psychology and our world and to contemplate at once our earthbound lives and our place in the cosmos.
We will present works by some of the composers that we are particularly fond of and that our audience has learned to appreciate over the years: Mäntyjärvi, Tormis and Ešenvalds. We will also extend our musical exploration into Iceland, an extremely rich source of magnificent choral works, including those of Jón Ásgeirsson and Jórunn Viðar whose Vökuró has been remixed by Björk. Finally, two of the pieces on the programme will be accompanied on glass harp, the ideal instrument for a concert about water!
