Motets in Leipzig
March 12, 2016 @ 7:30 pm (19:30) - 9:30 pm (21:30)$10.00 – $40.00
On March 12th, Voces Boreales will be joining forces with the St. Lawrence Choir for its Motets in Leipzig concert. The event is part of a new three-year project by the SLC to explore the motet in all its forms. Generally sacred and a cappella, the motet is an opportunity for composers to play with rich choral harmonies, often in eight voices, and to combine music and theology through a text-led musical rhetoric. For this concert, we will begin with the Kapellmeister and quintessential master of counterpoint, Johann Sebastian Bach, moving on to discover several other composers who were influenced by the musical and collegial city of Leipzig.

Works by Mendelssohn, Homilius, Grieg, Reger and Wagner, and… the Singet dem Herrn ein neues Lied motet by Bach!
