Synopsis

“Quintessence” is the last concert in the Voces Boreales Elements series. Referred to as ether, quintessence is described as a material filling the universe above the terrestrial sphere.

Quintessence is given various names according to some traditions and cultures. For instance, it is a void in Japanese culture, while it is known as Akash in Indian Hinduism. Despite the different names, one common aspect prevails: quintessence relates to the same intangible, unseen concept—a sense of spirit, a soul, an essence that attempts to explain the inexplicable.

The final Elements concert reflects upon otherworldly concepts such as the soul and paradise.

Come hear works by prolific composers such as Eric Whitacre, Jeff Enns, and Jääkko Mäntyjärvi. In addition, the ensemble has prepared a North American premiere of a work by Icelandic composer Páll Ragnar Pálsson
