Arvo Pärt receives Royal Philharmonic Society Gold Medal

Arvo Pärt reçoit la Médaille d'or du Royal Philharmonic Society

The Royal Philharmonic Society has awarded Arvo Pärt one of its highest distinctions! First presented in 1871, the RPS Gold Medal is awarded for outstanding musicianship to the finest musicians of any nationality. It bears the image of Beethoven, to celebrate the close relationship between the composer and the Society which commissioned his Ninth Symphony.

I was so pleased to read that Arvo Pärt has been awarded such a prestigious recognition by the Philharmonic society. I've loved his choral music for a long time and programmed a good number of his works with Voces Boreales over the last few years. Through his quite unique musical language and its connection to the text, performers and audiences alike never fail to appreciate the deep commitment of the composer to his music. - Andrew Gray

Arvo Pärt works performed by Voces Boreales include : Te Deum, And I heard a voice..., The Deer's Cry, Morning Star, Which was the son of..., and Bogoroditse Djevo. This last piece was recorded by VB8 on their debut album Winter Magic. More information about Winter Magic here.
